Established in 1970, “Raja Tourist Transport Company” was the first Transport Company of Punjab to be recognized by The Government of India, Ministry of Tourism for its foreign exchange earnings. Raja Tourist is specially geared to look after the foreign tourist coming to visit Amritsar and its surrounding areas. It possesses a fleet of clean, carefully maintained air-conditioned cars, tempos and luxury busses with All India Tourist Permit PB 01 license plates. Raja Singh, our forefather, established himself as a Tea Merchant in Amritsar, India in 1832 and laid the foundation of The Tea Trading Association. The foremost tea market is named after our ancestor. Our firm “Raja Singh Lal Chand Tea Merchants” represents and holds interest in several Tea Gardens and deals in black and green tea that is sold packaged in attractive boxes, cans, and, also in bulk. Approximately 500 tons of tea is sold through it p.a. in India and Europe.

In 1963, we started “Hotel Ritz Plaza” in Amritsar. Covering two acres of land and situated on The Mall Road it was the first hotel of its class in the state. Professionally managed, Ritz Plaza is a full service establishment with a Multi-Cuisine Restaurant, Specialty Restaurant, 24 Hour Coffee Shop, Bar, Banquet and Meeting Facilities, Beautiful Gardens, Swimming Pool etc. It is approved as a 4 Star hotel by The Government of India, Department of Tourism and is truly a fine boutique property. It also operates a complete flight catering service for international airlines flying out of Rajasansi Airport, Amritsar.

In 1955, my late Father Mr. Devinder Chand Mehra took up the cause of civil aviation of Amritsar and Punjab. He started a cargo charter for exporting tea and other commodities from India to Afghanistan and importing fresh and dry fruits. In 1956, he was appointed the General Sales Agent and Airport Ground Handling Agent for Ariana Afghan Airlines. He started “Raja Travel & General Agencies” which sells tickets, books cargo and does complete Ground Handling at Rajasansi Airport including passenger check-in, baggage handling, loading/unloading of cargo, document preparation and complete liaison with all departments, ensuring a complete and efficient flight operation. Its offices are centrally located at Hotel Ritz Plaza on the Mall Road. It is approved by The Director General Civil Aviation, Government of India and holds license to book foreign passages issued by the Reserve Bank of India.

The Raja Group of Companies has progressed tremendously in the past with the persistence, hard work and vision of my dear father (Late) Mr. Devinder Chand Mehra and brother (Late) Mr. Ranjit Rattan Mehra.
